Every Floor
Begins in the Forest

Before a Carlisle plank ever reaches our mill, it begins in the forest, where time, climate, and soil quietly shape the integrity of each tree. For nearly six decades, we’ve learned to read these cues, selecting only those trees with the strength, grain, and color worthy of becoming a Carlisle floor.

Sourcing is our first act of craftsmanship—respecting nature’s rhythm, choosing with intention, and collaborating with partners who share our reverence for the raw material.

Not all trees grow the same and not all wood is worthy of a Carlisle floor. The integrity of every board begins with its environment:
How Carlisle Wood Makes the Difference
Carlisle has defined its own grading philosophy rooted
in purpose, not volume. We source only proprietary grades, cut specifically for wide plank flooring.
Each decision, from the forest to the first cut, preserves the integrity of the tree and the performance of the floor.
From the center & lower trunk
Where the grain is tightest and most stable
From timber grown
In ideal conditions, not mass-harvested lots
Custom Sawn
To maximize width, length and grain appearance
Dried slowly and naturally
Ensuring stability and long-term performance
Our sourcing philosophy lives in the relationships we’ve built with sawyers and suppliers who share our values. Many of these partnerships span decades, even generations, grounded in mutual trust and respect for the wood. These craftspeople know exactly what we seek: tight grain, heartwood-rich centers, clean structure, and character that tells a story, not chaos. Together, we protect a legacy of responsible sourcing that honors the forest and elevates the finished floor.
American Made. Minimally Traveled.
From raw timber to finished floor, every Carlisle process happens close to home.
Our planks are milled, finished, and inspected in the United States, primarily in New Hampshire, reducing unnecessary transport and maintaining full transparency.

By keeping production local, we minimize waste, support American industry, and preserve the direct oversight that true stewardship demands.

Sustainability by Design

The most sustainable floor is one that lasts. Carlisle floors are built for generations; with thick wear layers, timeless design, and the ability to be refinished rather than replaced.
We repurpose nearly every byproduct:
Individually crafted floors maximize raw material yield
Nearly all production waste is ground into shavings and upcycled into heating pellets
All sawdust is repurposed as clean-burning fuel for wood stoves
Less than 0.5% of material ever reaches a landfill

Every decision is guided by one simple principle: create more beauty from less material.
