“Old and New” Combine to Create A Modern Look

An old commercial building in one the busiest cities in the world received a new life as modern homes for several families.

When you rehab an old building with a past you want to honor that history and the people who used this space before you.  It can be a challenge to convert the space into modern day standards with modern designs while maintaining the integrity of the existing building. Superior Woodcraft and Threshold Interiors were able to create a new kitchen in an old space that accomplished the goal of creating a modern day kitchen within an old space that honors the past and creates a great living space for today’s modern family.

Take a tour to see how this feat was accomplished:

The existing brick wall was used and then complemented with reclaimed materials, modern appliances; a custom metal hood that looks like it was in the building for the past 100 years.

Blue reclaimed industrial glass with chicken wire is used on the glass doors on this custom made metal cabinetry.  The black limba cabinets open to reveal storage areas and lighting controls.

Black Limba shelving is used with recessed LED lights to create some great visual effects with a glossy black splash, brick white and marble countertops.

Beautiful hardwood floors with older industrial looking chairs and table provide an accent to the eating and seating area.  There is a smooth transition from room to room in this open floor design.

Merging the old and new isn’t the easiest to accomplish in a kitchen design, but when it is done correctly the end result is spectacular and truly custom made for the homeowner.
