Prefab Retreat Transformed with Brushed White Oak Floors

Project Overview

In the hills of Litchfield County, architects David Fox and Christopher Stone of Stonefox created a weekend retreat that marries modern prefabrication with refined, bespoke finishes.

Carlisle’s Weathered Windmill White Oak floors provide the grounding element throughout. Wide 8-inch planks, brushed to reveal subtle texture, reflect light with natural variation that adds warmth and dimension to the sleek architecture. Their weathered character balances the home’s palette of glass, marble, and metal, creating a sense of cohesion and quiet history.

The result is a country escape that feels both innovative and timeless. The project has since inspired a series of Stonefox residential prototypes, proof that Carlisle’s handcrafted floors can anchor spaces that balance innovation with enduring appeal.
