A Wood Floor For Any Interior Design: Art Déco

Wide plank wood floors go with any style home. From plush Beverly Hills mansions to rustic seaside bungalows in the Florida Key’s, we’ve seen it all, and designed wood floors for it all too. Today, we’re starting a new series on our blog that will show you just how versatile our floors are, and show you examples of wood floor designs for the most popular interior styles.

We’ll start with a unique interior design style Art Deco, which stands for “Arts Décoratifs”. This home design style is a modern update to World War I and II era décor.

The Art Deco style is known for “tactile interest”, according to Lisa Frederic, for Houzz.com, so it is no wonder this style is defined by its use of metallic finishes like chrome, high gloss accents in the colors, woodwork and accents, mirrored furnishings and accent walls. Textures can be found in linens, textiles, or even wallpaper.
Since this interior design style includes many different shapes, sizes, textures, and dimension look for the following elements in your wide plank floor design

• All one width, this will minimize the “variety” in the floor that would occur with a random width floor.
• Your boards should be all 8″ or 10″, but nothing less than 6″. Wider boards and longer average lengths will help minimize the seams in the floor.
• Use a wood floor pattern in all or a portion of the design, like a kitchen or mudroom, invoking the geometric shapes on the floor as well as in accent pieces.

There are two styles of wood floors that go perfectly Art Deco design

1. A light wood floor, like Bastille, from the Studio Collection, is a great choice to keep the room light and bright and most of all, very versatile. It will allow you to select decorative accents in a variety of shapes, finishes or metallic accents.

2. A herringbone wood floor, like Turtle Bay, from the Manhattan Herringbone Collection, can be the perfect backdrop for an Art Deco design since the geometric pattern is a natural fit for this style as long as it provides the delicate balance of shapes and patterns elsewhere in the room. If you use a herringbone wood floor, it is a good idea to maintain a lighter or more neutral color that will go with a variety of accent colors and finishes.
