6 Ways to Give Your Home Summer Style

Share Share this post
Sunday marked the official start of summer. You might have already updated your wardrobe but have you given any thought to updating your home décor? Today, we’ll show you 6 ways to Summer-ize your home.

1. Extend Your Living Area Outdoors

When summer is here, you want to enjoy the outdoors as much as possible. If you don’t already have an outdoor living area set up, now is the time to create one. Patios and decks are the most common because you can set up some outdoor furniture, hammock, a grill, or a fire pit (or all of the above) to create the most comfortable environment for you and your guests.

If you have a farmers porch or three season room, you can convert this into a sleeping porch with trundle or day beds. This is a great solution if your home will be busy with guests this summer.

2. Bring Home the Beach

We don’t all have the luxury of a 24-hour waterfront view, but we can recreate that feeling of relaxation and bliss with a few choice decorative accents.

Driftwood is created when wood is exposed to weather and water over an extended period of time. You can find a piece of driftwood to lay atop a stack of books, like the home below, or as a decorative accent on your mantle.

Sailboats, buoys, white and blue stripes…these are just some of the components of a nautical interior, and a great way to dress up your interior if you can’t be near the water as much as you would like this summer. If you are looking for more ideas, check out these suggestions from Houzz.com.

Another way to create a beach feel at your home is to decorate with seashells. You can set up seashells around your home or store them in vases and glass containers.

3. Savor Nature

Summer brings with it a plethora of beautiful flowers; it’s the ideal season to reap your own fruits and vegetables and create savory herbs for cooking. Cut flowers are a beautiful adornment to any patio table or dining room.

Whether you have a sprawling farm, a rooftop parcel, or a window planter, you can find a space to plant vegetables and/or fresh herbs.

4. DeClutter & Organize

Summertime should be about relaxation and enjoying the beautiful weather. The best way to do that is to avoid clutter and chaos. Chaos comes at you from many angles, while you can’t control it all, you can control some of it in your home. Declutter your kitchen and primary living areas. Your home could quickly fill up with summer beach bags, flip-flops, and beach towels. This handy metal bucket keeps beach towels in reach.

5. Update Your Color

Unless you were already planning on updating your interior colors you probably don’t want to repaint your entire home, just to enjoy it for one season. Instead, focus on small changes in your home, like decorative accents, that can help you add or update your color, and complement the summer season.

6. Summer Updates

As you move into summer, you can make some simple changes to your décor. Remove heavy drapes and curtains. Install wood blinds, like this home in Kauai, HI. Remove heavy carpets and rugs, which can collect dirt. You can certainly keep area rugs in high traffic areas to protect your wood floors during this busy time of year.
